Academic Decathlon (2016-2017)
Academic Decathlon (11-12 grade) and Octathlon (9-10 grade) offer students a class in which they can explore and learn about many exciting new topics while meeting new people. Students will compete at competitions throughout the school year to showcase their knowledge in each of this year’s course topics.

Community Emergency Response Team (2016-2018)
A FEMA-sponsored program that trains volunteers in disaster preparedness and response skills. CERT members can help first responders, provide assistance to victims, and organize volunteers during disasters. They can also help with non-emergency community safety projects.

Band (Symphonic/Honors/Marching; 2011-2016)

Beta Club (2017-2018)
Beta Club is a service organization. Members are invited to join after receiving 3 nominations from faculty members during the Spring. Eleventh and Twelfth graders may be members (Sophomores may be nominated at the end of sophomore year for the following year). Members complete service projects on and off campus and are developing leadership skills as well as promoting useful causes through their service work.

Billiard Team (2016-2018)
Billiard Team is a group that has members playing 8 and 9-ball pool using the American Poolplayers Association (APA) guidelines. The group was disbanded since the faculty advisor left the school district and it was difficult to find an establishment that did not have alcohol per school regulations. 
Positions held: Nominated Team Captain (’16-’18), Co-founder (’16)

Coding Team (2016-2017)
Students at Sachse High School are merging science, technology, engineering, and math while participating in a new program spearheaded by the Texas Institute. 20 students are part of the “coding club,” which meets after school once a week.
The purpose of the program is to get young people more engaged in computer programming. Students are learning how to use TI’s newly revised graphing calculator to code. They are also using the TI-Innovator, which is a new tool created to set code into motion.
Students were tasked with building a filtration system that would provide and conserve water for vegetation in Africa. Working with the new tools from Texas Instruments also gave students a hands-on experience in collaboration. Students were also mentored by UT Dallas graduate students.

Achievements: STEAMposium N-SPIRE Coding Challenge 1st Place (Either ’15 or ’16)

College & Career Readiness Ambassadors (2017)
The school librarians invited students who were at the top of the class and had been accepted into colleges to mentor and provide support to other students interested in college or other opportunities.

Family Career & Community Leaders of America (2017-2018)
Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (F.C.C.L.A.) is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences Education as determined by the State Department of Education.
Positions Held: Student Member (’17-’18)
Achievements: FCCLA Parliamentary Procedure State Level Test Silver Medal (’17),  Parliamentary Procedure State Level Test Silver Medal (’18), and Etiquette State Level Test Gold (’18). 

French Club (2014-2017)
The French club holds movie nights, plays games, tries new food, volunteers in the community and learns about life in French-speaking countries.

Health Occupations Students of America (2015-2018)
H.O.S.A. (Health Occupations Students of America
Texas Association) exists to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health science technology education students, therefore, helping students to meet the needs of the health care community.
Positions Held: Student Member (’15-’17), Nominated Vice President (’17-’18)
Achievements: 50+ Service Hours (’15-’16), Top 5 Member (’15-’16)

Key Club International (2015-2018)
Key Club is an international, student-led organization that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership.
Positions held: Appointed Co-Webmaster (’15-’18), Elected President (’16), Appoined Lieutenant Governor T-O District, Region 8, Division 2C/2S (’16-’17), Self-Appointed Webmster (’16-’17), Appointed Student Advisor/Kiwanis Liasion (’17-’18)

Distinguished Website (’16-’17), Opening Day District Convention Committee (’16-’17), Partnered with SWM Kiwanis to Sponsor a Builder’s Club at Hudson Middle School (’18)

Light Brigade (2016-2018)
The LIGHT Brigade is a peer support group/organization made up of students dedicated to remaining drug and alcohol-free and advocating for a safer environment in the school community. The focus is on education and prevention programs relating to issues such as drugs and alcohol, suicide, healthy relationships, bullying, etc.

Mu  Alpha Theta (2015-2018)
Mu Alpha Theta is an organization dedicated to promoting scholarships in mathematics. It is also dedicated to establishing math as an integral part of high school and junior college education. If you share the same mathematical outlook.

National Honor Society (NHS; 2016-2018)
NHS is a service oriented organization that works to create enthusiasm for scholarship, promote leadership, develop character and encourage citizenship.

Student Council (2017-2018)
The student representative body within a Senior High School (SHS), where students are elected to represent their peers, voice their concerns, plan school events, and contribute to the overall school culture, essentially acting as leaders.

Texas Youth Preparedness Council (2017-2018)
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) created the Youth Preparedness Council (YPC) in 2012 to bring together young leaders who are interested in supporting disaster preparedness and making a difference in their communities. Through the YPC, FEMA demonstrates commitment to involving America’s youth in preparedness-related activities by engaging with young people and soliciting their perspectives, feedback and opinions.

Specialized Courses

Health Science – Clinical Rotations
This course is for students seriously interested in a healthcare career. It is designed to provide for the development of advanced knowledge and skills related to a wide variety of health careers. Students will have in-class hands-on experiences for continued knowledge and skill development. The course may be taught by different methodologies such as clinical rotation, internships, and career preparation learning. Students may spend two classroom periods, two or three days a week at Baylor Medical Center at Garland.

Emergency Medical Technician
Students enrolled in the one-year EMT dual credit program receive credit from both GISD and El Centro College and will be eligible to test for EMT Basic certification through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
and the Texas Department of State Health Services.
